Physical Fitness Test
The Minnesota POST Board, Professional Peace Officer Education (PPOE) approved learning objective Category 3, Section 9 includes the following objective:
Category 3, Section 9, Objective 2 (3.9.2)
Pass a physical fitness test with an overall accumulative passing score.
This means a physical fitness test must be administered by every State PPOE program and each student must pass the standard score to be granted licensure through a State PPOE program.
Physical Fitness Test
A passing score is 42 points, which is 70% of the possible 60 points. This score represents
the physical fitness level of the average person according to studies by the Cooper
Institute and was chosen under the belief that peace officer candidates need to be
at least as fit as the average person. Students must receive a minimum of three points
in each of the six areas to pass.
| Event | Minimum Rest Before Next Event |
| 1. The vertical jump | 2 minutes |
| 2. The one minute sit up | 5 minutes |
| 3. The Illinois agillity run | 5 minutes |
| 4. The one minute push up | 5 minutes |
| 5. The sit and reach | 2 minutes |
| 6. The 1.5 mile run/walk OR 300 meter run | 5 minute cool down |
The test will be administered only after students have been screened to identify any
preexisting injuries or medical restrictions, which would preclude the student from
safe participation. It will also be administered in accordance with the mandatory
safety policy required by Minn. Rules 6700.0300, Subps. 8.
